Learning to slow down

I (Nick) had a bit of an accident & wanted to share the update with you. This past weekend I was planning to go riding up the mountain with one of my friends. As I was loading the dirt bike into the truck I got 1/2 way up the ramp and felt a couple of pops in my right arm. I ended up tearing my bicep tendons & now my right arm looks like Popeye. I immediately called my friend (a CrossFit coach) and he referred me to another mutual friend, Nate, who’d just recovered from this same injury. Nate walked me through the process and basically I need to meet with an orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible and have the tendons re-attached. After that it’s a 3-4 month recovery of not lifting any weight and about 12 months before I’m fully recovered. If you know anything about Hawaii - nothing moves fast here. So this morning’s miracle is: I needed to get a referral from my doctor to move forward. When I went in to get it - my friend Nate was the one sitting at the reception desk! He’s usually working in the back but they needed help up front today and he happened to be at the front desk. As it turns out the doctor I needed to see was full up for appointments today but Nate was able to squeeze me in to get the referral & now I have a consult with the surgeon scheduled for Thursday! Thank God for favor! I’m not stoked for how long the recovery could take but I had a lot of peace since the injury happened on Saturday. I’m pretty active - from surfing & riding dirt bikes with the kids to camping & other outdoor activities - the last thing I want right now is to slow down - but my prayer has been for the Lord to show my why I need to slow down in this season & to lean into Him.

Thanks for following our journey & for your prayers. Blessings, Nick & Naomi

OUTPOST PANAMA is on an island called Bastiementos on the Caribbean Sea side of northern Panama, up near Costa Rica. The house, with room for 40, is perfectly situated in the jungle, nestled among many indigenous Ngobe Indian tribes. Completely off the grid we produce power by solar, catch rain water, and are surrounded by lush plants, fruit trees, and 3 streams on 8 acres of land. There are no roads and our only access is by water taxis that run in and out of town a 10-15 minute ride away. When we were given this property it was perfect because of its proximity to the Ngobe indian tribes scattered along the river systems of coastal Panama. With much of the Panamanian coastline undeveloped it could take up to a week to reach these tribes by land. With our partnerSHIP m/v Making Waves, we can pull up within a day and start ministry.
